The Associate Category Specialist assists in managing the day-to-day business in assigned categories. Participates in business reviews and plays a role in executing joint business plans with suppliers in assigned portfolio. The Associate Category Specialist also develops and maintains relationships with suppliers in assigned portfolios to drive Casey’s Sales and Profitability. This is an entry level role in the department.

• Assists Category Manager in developing and executing strategy for assigned categories based on competitive and consumer trends and market needs.
• Assists in developing annual category plans and category financial projections and execution to meet goals.
• Assists Category manager in developing and creating insightful project briefs for assigned categories based on competitive and consumer trends and market needs.
• Assists in managing the business against operating plans and budgets. May include the day-to-day management of tasks, including forecasting, shipment and consumption analysis, margin, and tracking. Provides on-going updates on the category to leadership, including monthly scorecards and daily/weekly reporting as the business demands.
• Assists Category Managers with vendor and item set up and promotional accounting. Prepares information to create vendor bill backs related to promotional activities, as necessary.
• Effectively partners with other teams that play a key part in driving and executing on strategy.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or similar path of study or related field or equivalent work experience.
• At least one year of experience in a creative, marketing, sourcing or product development role preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate and build relationships based on transparency and mutual respect.
• Ability to understand and deal effectively with problems and opportunities.
• Strong attention to detail, with the proven ability to remain organized and self-motivated.
• Proficient in performing needs assessments and making recommendations based on the discovered needs.
• Ability to influence without authority.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
