Job Description
Opportunity at a Glance
The role is responsible for purchasing a wide variety of products and services in a timely manner. Products and services include medical supplies, shipping services, office supplies, computers, laptops, IT equipment, etc.. Applies skills and expertise in specification development for printing requirements, related commodities and services.
Responsibilities
- Buyer responsibilities (30%)
- Purchases and negotiates with Adtalem preferred suppliers.
- Leads Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) with preferred suppliers.
- Maintains relationships with Adtalem preferred suppliers and is single point of contract for supplier issues.
- Administers purchase orders in the Lawson system and is SME for Supply Management Office.
- Collaborate with suppliers to identify opportunities for price reductions, rebates, discounts and process efficiencies.
- Works to resolve supplier payment issues with Adtalem Accounts Payable (AP) team.
- Analytics responsibilities (30%)
- Identifies opportunities for supplier consolidation to leverage Adtalem purchasing power; end result will reduce cost while increasing supplier service levels.
- Provides recommendations to internal customers to drive cost savings.
- Analyzes Adtalem supplier spend data by-institution and by-category to identify opportunities to reduce discretionary spend
- Drives Continuous Improvement by decreasing cycle time of requisition-to-purchase-order cycle, streamlining supplier ordering process, etc.
- Lead management and tracking of Minority and Women Owned (MWBE) supplier spend at Adtalem.
- RFP responsibilities (30%)
- Helps manage key $1M+ Adtalem cross-institutional RFP opportunities.
- Leads consolidation of scoring and pricing data from RFP teams.
- Provides analytics on RFP supplier information and develop recommendations
- Collaborates with SMEs at institutions to get their perspective on vendor selection
- Communicates results to business sponsors and executive management team
- Completes other duties as assigned.

- Complies with all policies and standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required
- 3 years of experience as a buyer required.
- Experience in negotiating with suppliers
- RFP experience
- Experience in higher education preferred
- Lawson ERP experience is required
- MS Office software expertise, especially Excel and pivot tables.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate with suppliers, finance, contract managers, campuses.
Additional Information
In support of the pay transparency laws enacted across the country, the expected salary range for this position is between $47766.34 and $86253.75. Actual pay will be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as experience and training; geographic location; licensure and certifications; market factors; departmental budgets; and responsibility.
