SUMMARY: The Database Administrator is a hands-on role that will lead Install, configure and maintain database software and other software related to database management systems, based on analysis and findings for Database improvements. This position will apply solid technical, business, and problem solving skills and through initiative, leadership and teamwork, create productive relationships with internal/external teams and clients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Install and configure database software and other software related to database management systems
- Work closely with Systems Engineers & Administrators to perform software installations and to configure hardware and software so that it functions optimally with the Database Management Systems
- Monitor and administer DBMS security
- Analyze the data stored in the database and to make recommendations relating to performance and efficiency of that data storage
- Administer existing enterprise databases, and analyze, design and create new databases
- Proactively monitor systems for optimum performance and capacity constraints
- Establish standards and best practices for SQL
- Interact with and coach developers in SQL scripting
- Perform database backup and recovery
- Support the creation, maintenance and implementation of procedures regarding how problems are identified, received, documented, distributed and corrected.
- Ensures project documents are complete
- Manages day-to-day project and scope changes
- Communicates and coordinates database schedule, backups, and downtime to users
- Reviews reports, files and messages to identify instances of possible security infractions
- Responds to inquiries regarding database security, policies and procedures
- Performs capacity planning
- Identifies potential security issues and recommends strategy to ensure database security
- Researches and evaluates new technologies
- Participates in the planning, communication, testing and implementation of disaster recovery procedures
- Collects and analyzes infrastructure utilization & health

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in Business Administration, Information Systems Management, or other relevant fields; or 6+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5+ years of experience in support services or technology management.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Obtained or demonstrates an active pursuit of one or more of the following certifications preferred: MCSA:SQL 2016 Database Administration, Administering a SQL Database Infrastructure
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Advanced knowledge of SQL Server and SQL Reporting Services
- Data warehousing experience is a plus
- Confidence in dealing with and serving customers
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong critical thinking, analytical thinking, and problem solving abilities
- Must be familiar with RDBMS concepts, practices and procedures
- Must have knowledge of network connectivity
- Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft SQL Server (2016 and later)
- Experience with Azure Cloud a plus
- Experience with common SDLC methodologies
- Extensive experience with Database backup & disaster recovery solutions
- Extensive experience with Windows Server
- Excellent trouble shooting and problem resolution skills
- Excellent database and SQL tuning skills
- Strong knowledge of Data Modeling
- Strong knowledge of XML, JSON, and ODBC
- Knowledge of the ITIL framework & philosophies including Incident, Problem & Change
