Trade Publication Editor - Freelance

Field: Interior Design / Home Decor

We are a trade magazine in the interior design field looking for an energetic, positive, and creative Managing Editor to join our team! We publish bi-monthly and are looking for a Managing Editor who brings a positive attitude, and fresh ideas, works well with the team, and works well independently. Must be able to communicate remotely, manage workload, meet strict deadlines, and be a positive addition to the brand name. Must be able to create a clear direction and roadmap for the magazine. Should be confident about ideas that grow our subscribers and reader engagement. 10+ years of magazine editing experience is required. Must have professional verbal and written etiquette.

The Managing Editor’s role will be to:

• Develop and vet content for each issue to address the needs of all levels of the industry.
• Solicit and manage columnists and contributors for articles per the agreed-upon editorial plan for each issue.
• Research content and photography for each issue.
• Create content strategies and oversee implementation processes.
• Write editorials and articles as needed for publication.
• Work with the graphic designer and Publishers to select covers, photos, and the overall look and design of the magazine.
• Work with the Publisher and team to expand social media and website followers to position the publication as the premier magazine in North America.
• Work with the Marketing Team to post on social media, create promotions, website content, blog, subscription efforts, etc.
• Meet regularly with staff and team to discuss content, design, and overall strategy.
• Submit a weekly report to include the status of the magazine, weekly accomplishments, and needs of staff members
• Attend key industry trade shows and events as agreed upon by the Publisher.
• Familiarize yourself and build relationships with key industry stakeholders.
• Work with the advertising team on paid content and revenue-generating programs.
