Description
The Editor is an important role for provided high quality content, brand reputation and a unified voice at the Standing for Freedom Center. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure high quality, accurate and well-sourced writing projects ranging from online articles, mailers, handouts, and booklet content that fits within the mission and purpose of the Freedom Center. The Editor will both develop original content through writing and provide editorial leadership, oversight and quality control for the writing team. The content written for the Standing for Freedom Center will focus on topics in Biblical worldview categories as applied to theology, politics, and frontline cultural issues. As an editor, there will be responsibility for using best judgment and discretion regarding how published content fits within the mission and objectives of the Standing for Freedom Center as serves Liberty University’s primary mission of Training Champions for Christ.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide editorial oversight, leadership, quality control and coordination to writing team in regular content production for website and printed pieces.
2. Create, edit, and improve the content produced by the Standing For Freedom Center as well as edit the writings provided by independent contractors, faculty, and other subject matter experts.
3. Proofread all pieces to ensure accurate spelling, grammar, punctuation and that the articles provided are 501c3 compliant, properly sourced and factual without improper or unethical bias that is outside our Christian mission as an institution.
4. Able to communicate in a both creative and strategic manner the biblical ideals, values and principles of the Freedom Center while meeting regular deadlines and schedule of the center.
5. Responsible for maintaining the branding look and feel of all publications in a consistent manner and adhering to existing brand identity guidelines with close attention to detail.
6. Must be detail-oriented, ability to work well under pressure, prioritize projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced working environment.
7. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting. Occasionally need to finish another writer’s project.
8. Working on several projects at once, sometimes under pressure and often tight deadlines.
9. Consistently demonstrates integrity and ethical behavior congruent with Christian values in all transactions and relationships. Adheres to the regulatory and legal environment of higher education. Is openly accountable for actions, decisions, and outcomes. Contributes to sustained profitability by establishing realistic goals and effectively managing resources. A commitment to Christian ideals, philosophy, and direction of the University as stated through its mission and vision, integrating faith into his or her discipline.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is not responsible for the supervision of staff.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
Education and Experience
Four-year college degree, with a concentration in journalism or communications preferred but not required to apply. Well-developed communications skills. 3-5 years of experience as an editor.

- Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business and community customers and associates.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent computer skills
- Ability to articulate and defend the unique Christian educational mission and vision of Liberty University and its subsidiaries to a wide variety of individuals and groups.
Problem Solving
- Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
Physical and Sensory Abilities
- Occasionally required to travel to local and campus locations.
- Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard. (If not administrative duties, such as labor, define general physical abilities.
- Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.
- Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
- Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment
- The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled office setting. It is well lighted, and the noise level is moderate.
Driving Requirements
Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.
