Freelance Legal Translators

JTG is currently seeking translators and interpreters between English and one or more of the following languages:

Armenian | Azeri | Belarusian | Chamorro | Estonian | Finnish | Greek | Hungarian | Hmong | Italian | Jamaican Patois | Japanese | Korean | Latvian | Lithuanian | Mam | Moldovan | Quiche | Samoan | Slovak | Tagalog | Telugu | Tigrinya | Visayan

Location: Remote

Status: Freelance contractor

Citizenship Status: US citizen residing in the US (dual citizenship permitted)

Responsibilities:

• Provide accurate translation of documents involving law enforcement and legal subjects
• Communicate fluently in English orally and in writing
• Translate in accordance with designated style and quality standards
• Use domain-specific terminology
• Review the quality of other translators' work as needed
• Interpret accurately, while preserving the tone and register, and abiding by the code of ethics.

Basic Qualifications:

• Proficient in translating between English and a foreign language
• Proficient in interpreting between English and a foreign language
• Experience as a professional translator, editor, interpreter, journalist, writer, or legal professional
• Familiarity with legal terminology
• Willing to undergo a US government background check
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Preferred qualifications:
• Law degree, paralegal certificate, or court interpreting experience
• Experience with editing, audio transcription, or interpreting
• Security clearance

Education:

• Minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

This position reports to the Project Manager.
