Mana Maoli seeks a Teacher Support Specialist (TSS) and/or a Project Assistant (PA) to support our Hui Hoʻomohala (Program Team) leadership and kumu (instructors and mentors) - part-time
About Mana Mele
The Mana Mele Project teaches Mana Maoliʻs ABCs (Academics, Business, and Culture) through Music and/or Multimedia across a diverse range of genres and styles. We serve K-12 youth, as well as alumni/college interns across 3 islands and 20 partner schools, including all 15 Hawaiian-focused public charter schools.
Position
The PA would assist leadership of our Hui Hoʻomohala (Program Team) by providing administrative, logistical and programmatic support for our kumu (instructors/mentors), planning school and program-wide services and events, data collection/reporting, and more. The TSS would assist with these tasks as time allows, with a focus on professional development/capacity building for our kumu.
Start Date
August 1, 2023
This position is guaranteed until November 30, 2023. Continuance will depend on funds/forthcoming grants.

*Remote work is possible; however, PA & TSS applicants must reside on Oʻahu and have a reliable mode of transportation in order to attend in-person meetings, conduct classroom visits, and participate in other related Mana Maoli events.
Hours
- PA:10-20 hours per week
- TSS: est. 5-10hrs/wk if focused solely on instructor support, or 10-20hrs/wk if also assisting with admin tasks
- Optional: 2-3 hours per week to instruct a Mana Mele class at Ke Kula ʻo Samuel M. Kamakau in Heʻeia, Oʻahu. The instructor hours are dependent on applicant experience and availability.
Kuleana
The PA would play a strong assistant role in the following areas of kuleana (responsibilities):
- Planning, coordination, management and support of program aspects of MM projects, including:
- Year-long and short-term music & multimedia classes & mentorships
- Artist & Mobile Studio School Visits
- Off-Campus Internships in the Creative Industries
- Data collection, documentation, analysis i.e., take photos/videos and track attendance at hōʻike (class/school performances)
- Planning Professional Development for kumu/mentors
- Collecting kumu/mentor deliverables, logs, invoices
- Classroom support for MM Kumu as needed
- Assist with finding substitutes and coverage for Mana Mele kumu as needed
- Event support - logistics, communication, on-site support
- Maintain, update, file program-related documents
The TSS would assist instructors and mentors with:
- drafting Startup deliverables, e.g. Syllabi, Mentorship Planning forms, pre/post assessments
- Classroom Observations and Feedback
- Quarterly check-in meetings
- Additional support as requested by our Program Director
- At a higher FTE, the TSS would also assist with the PA kuleana listed above, as needed
Minimum Qualifications for both positions:
- College degree (BA or higher)
- Highly organized, i.e. able to quickly prioritize tasks, proficient in task management
- Strong desire to work with Hawaiian community in a Hawaiian cultural context and engage with youth
- Detail-oriented and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Weekday availability
- Excellent people skills - able to work with a wide range of people and learning styles
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, and Google drive
Additional Minimum Qualifications specific to each position:
PA:
- At least 2 years experience related to administration, project management, and/or education.
- Must live on Oʻahu
TSS:
- 5+ years teaching experience
- Must live on Oʻahu
Preferred Qualifications for all positions:
- Proficiency in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, music and/or various aspects of Hawaiian culture
- Experience teaching and/or working with youth, especially Hawaiian and low-income youth, and/or Hawaiian nonprofits
- Experience teaching music and/or Hawaiian language or culture
- Networks related to the fundraising and/or implementation of the Mana Mele Project
- Skills and experience related to 1 or more of the 4 areas of mentorship – music, engineering, video production and communications (TV, radio, news)
- Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Asana
- Experience writing and managing grants
