Job Description
This position assists in and/or performs external audits of contracts with consultants, railroad companies, contractors, planning agencies, public transit authorities and agencies, universities, local units of government, public utilities, and others doing business with the Michigan Department of Transportation for highway maintenance, transportation services, construction, relocation of utility facilities, improvements on federal aid systems, economic development projects, and other services; and assists in and/or performs internal audits of the bureaus, offices, and regions of the Michigan Department of Transportation's organizational entities and processes; audits of bridge authorities, contractor claims, and special assignments and investigations. Conduct pre-award authorization reviews, pre-award audits/examinations, and agreement reviews of proposed agreements. Perform other duties as assigned. The Auditor positions can be rotated, as required, within the Office of Commission Audits.
The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (9) level through the maximum rate at the advanced (12) level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting.
Note: We may consider applicants that will be obtaining a bachelor degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting by December 31, 2023.
Experience
Auditor 9
No specific type or amount is required.
Auditor 10
One year of professional experience auditing accounting, financial, and operations records equivalent to an Auditor 9.
Auditor P11
Two years of professional experience auditing accounting, financial, and operations records equivalent to an Auditor, including one year equivalent to an Auditor 10.
Auditor 12
Three years of professional experience auditing accounting, financial, and operations records equivalent to an Auditor, including one year equivalent to an Auditor P11.
Alternate Education and Experience
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certification (CPA) may be substituted for one year of experience at the P11 level.
OR
Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of experience at the P11 level.
Possession of a Certified Internal Auditor certification or a Certified Information System Auditor certification may be substituted for one year of experience at the P11 level forpositions responsible for internal auditing.
OR
Possession of a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credits (36 term) in finance, information systems, or management may be substituted for the education for positions responsible for internal auditing.

Vacation and Sick Leave: Eligible full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 personal days and 13 sick days per year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.
Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leave immediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
Paid Holidays: Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
Bonus Programs: Eligible employees with five years of service also receive annual longevity bonuses that grow as seniority increases. Some positions also may qualify for recruitment, retention, and performance bonuses or other special pay premiums.
