Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and protect the company’s IP, including invention harvesting, patent preparation and prosecution, portfolio development and management, and due diligence support for in/out-licensing.
- Actively engage with internal clientele, present the IP legal position on opportunities arising from Research, Clinical, and Development activities, and make recommendations for dispute resolution and further action.
- Formulate patent strategies for pharmaceutical lifecycle management based on the business roadmap and Research and Clinical Development.
- Conduct patentability, landscape, and freedom-to-operate searches and assessments relating to the company's inventions and research activities.
- Partner with the Research team to identify and capture patentable inventions and provide patent counseling and recommendations.
- Assist in the preparation, filing, and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications.
- Oversee the execution and filing of formal documents, including invention assignments, declarations, assignments, and information disclosure statements.
- Manage outside counsel regarding patent issues, including instructing, reviewing, overseeing, and approving outside counsel’s work on various global patent matters.
- Support due diligence activities for Business Development team transactions and provide recommendations and risk assessments.
- Proactively provide an IP perspective to key internal decision-makers.
Qualifications:
- PhD in a relevant field (biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, or a related field). Solid antibody experience is a requirement.
- Substantial experience in handling intellectual property matters related to drug development of biologics, antibody and antibody-drug conjugate, protein engineering and manufacturing.
- Prior experience writing patent applications and assisting in the development of IP strategy is essential.
- Previous experience in-house in a biopharmaceutical company is preferred, and previous law firm experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of USPTO and WIPO rules and procedures, with a commitment to staying up-to-date with any changes.
- Membership to the USPTO is required.
- Excellent academic credentials.
- Strong written, verbal, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- 3 - 10 years of relevant experience.
