About the organization:
The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data (ACLED) is a disaggregated data collection, analysis, and crisis mapping project. The ACLED team conducts analysis to describe, explore, and test conflict scenarios, and makes both data and analysis open for free use by the public. ACLED material is regularly used to inform journalism, academic research, and public discourse on conflict, and to support the work of practitioners and policymakers. ACLED is the highest quality and most widely used real-time data and analysis source on political violence and protests around the world.
The role:
ACLED is recruiting a full-time Programs Officer to support and assist with the coordination of various projects and initiatives. This position is fully remote and can be done from any location with reliable internet service. It is open to nationals of any country, excluding those explicitly listed on the Applicants FAQ. The Programs Officer will be supervised by the Associate Program Coordinator and has no direct reports.

Specific roles and responsibilities:
The Programs Officer will be responsible for the following tasks: (primarily in relation to the projects they oversee)
Project Coordination
- Support the start-up, implementation, and coordination of various projects and activities;
- Lead on project administration, including maintaining, updating, and filing crucial project documents, ensuring all documents are approved by senior management, organizing tasks, and contracting;
- Lead on donor reporting (both narrative and financial) and narrative shaping for different projects;
- Support the Senior DMEL Officer in monitoring and evaluation efforts across projects, including effectively tracking specific indicators;
- Ensure project success by aligning teams to achieve project objectives and adhere to timelines, with particular reference to the project’s work plan;
- Identify and resolve challenges associated with different projects and initiatives, including coordinating between teams and other relevant stakeholders as needed;
- Schedule and take minutes for all relevant internal and external meetings;
- Support the management of budgets and financial reporting by tracking spending and variance, and developing invoices and payment requests;
- Coordinate with the Operations department on project procurement, travel, logistics, etc.;
- Other ad hoc tasks that may arise.
Stakeholder Engagement & Stewardship
- Liaise with other teams and departments on project- and donor-specific engagement activities;
- Support the development of engagement strategies for different projects;
- Support the development of promotional materials for different projects and initiatives;
- Support the development and distribution of project-specific branding as necessary;
- Support engagement and stewardship activities for key stakeholders for different projects and initiatives, notably by circulating relevant materials and information;
- Support with the logistical and substantive coordination of various engagement activities with donors, such as briefings, roundtables, and workshops;
- Lead the tracking of engagement activities on Salesforce.
Skills and competencies:
ACLED is seeking applicants who have the following skills and experience:
- 2-3 years of experience supporting complex projects with tight timelines;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and verbal;
- Experience engaging with a wide range of local and international stakeholders;
- Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure, troubleshoot challenges, and meet short- and long-term deadlines;
- Experience in program administration and operations;
- Experience with drafting project budgets, donor reporting, financial reporting, and M&E;
- Good judgment and extremely high attention to detail;
- Fluency in English (essential); and,
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace suites.
Candidates that can additionally demonstrate the skills below will be favored:
- Proficiency in intercultural communications;
- Academic experience related to international relations, journalism, law, conflict studies, or peacebuilding;
- Familiarity with leading team communication platforms (Slack, Asana) preferred;
- Knowledge of project funding procedures, guidelines, and tools;
- Knowledge of the political situations in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
