Office of Workforce Development
The Office of Workforce Development (OWD) administers several federal workforce programs and oversees a network of local OhioMeansJobs centers, which provide free job training and other services for Ohioans looking for work and employers seeking workers. OWD also assists job seekers through OhioMeansJobs.com, an online job matching system that brings both employers and job seekers to one easy-to-use website.
What You’ll Do
- Independently assess the training needs of employees in the Office of Workforce Development (OWD) through surveys and evaluations
- Select effective training methods (demonstrations, lectures, workshops, web-based) and utilize multimedia tools for interactive training materials
- Design or revise new courses using e-learning software and web development tools
- Edit and proofread training materials to ensure accuracy and clarity
- Deliver training programs to OWD employees and external customers on various topics, including specific programs like Wagner-Peyser, RESEA, JVSG, and TAA
- Provide soft skill training relevant to OWD staff and their customers
- Manage the learner environment to facilitate participant involvement and ensure a comfortable learning environment
- Coordinate the delivery of training programs, including marketing, scheduling, and ensuring availability of training resources
- Evaluate training effectiveness through participant feedback, learning outcome assessments, and workplace application
- Respond to training-related inquiries from customers
- Stay up to date with OWD legislation, policies, and programs to align training with current standards
- Provide technical training on systems like OMJ, ARIES, SharePoint, and Remedy to assist users
- Develop statewide, regional, or individualized training programs in collaboration with state and non-state staff
- Work with the Office of Employee and Business Services (EBS) to maintain training records and reports using the Electronic Learning Management (ELM) system
- Compile training data, maintain employee training files, and issue certificates of attendance and continuing education credits
- Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and other meetings as required
- Facilitate work teams and departmental committees and contributing to special assignments
- Utilize personal computers to produce correspondence, reports, and documents
- Maintain accurate logs, records, and files related to training activities

- Attention to detail and proficiency in utilizing various training methods and technologies
- Being adaptable to changing training needs and requirements
Residency/Other:
Employees must reside in Ohio and/or within a reasonable distance of their assigned work location. If selected, you may be asked to travel to one of our locations to pick up equipment and receive initial instructions.
Schedule:
- Working hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Flextime may be available
Travel:
This is a remote position; however, you may be required to occasionally travel to locations within the State of Ohio for meetings and to perform job duties.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate must have and identify the following in their application:
Option 1:
(6) courses in human resources, education, sociology or psychology, OR (18) mos exp in preparing informational or instructional programs AND 18 mos trg OR (18) mos exp in public speaking OR effective communications skills AND (3) mos trg OR (3) mos exp in operating audio visual equipment.

Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Pay Information
This position is in the State of Ohio’s OCSEA Pay Schedule, Pay Range 31. Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be the minimum salary of that pay range (Step 1, currently $25.45 per hour). These ranges provide a standardized pathway for pay increases. With continued employment, new hires move to the next step in the range after 6 months and annually thereafter. Cost of Living Adjustments increase wages in these ranges each fiscal year. The current step progression wages are in the table below.

Ohio Public Employees Retirement System
