Secondary English Language Arts Teacher (Online)

As part of our mission to reach more students and have a greater impact, we launched MiaPrep Online High School (MOHS), an accredited online private school, which has further grown to serve our families’ various educational needs. Our inaugural school year was the 2022-23 year, and we continue to grow at a fast pace as we work to establish strong systems for student success and external partnerships that provide additional opportunities to our students.

At MOHS, our vision is to bring online education to the next level by offering a flexible virtual schooling option for families. Our support services at MOHS include opportunities for students to receive online support from highly qualified teachers, participate in social opportunities and extracurriculars, and work toward their high school diploma using an individualized academic plan.

We are currently seeking a passionate and resourceful English Language Arts Teacher who will also serve as an Advisor to a caseload of students. The ideal candidate will excel in providing educational instruction, targeted and student-friendly feedback, and academic guidance and support. This individual will also have a gift for building rapport with students and will contribute positively to our school community and culture.

Responsibilities:

• Grading and Feedback: Efficiently evaluate students' assignments for various English subjects, providing comprehensive feedback to aid their learning and development.
• Office Hours: Host weekly virtual office hours (3-5 hrs/week) to clarify curriculum concepts, address questions, and offer additional support for English topics and assignments.
• Academic Advising: Maintain a caseload of students for whom you will provide academic advising, including quarterly check-ins, and in some-cases, targeted support plans.
• Tiered Support: Identify struggling students and, together with our Academic Counselors, proactively provide tiered support solutions to enhance their academic performance.
• Parental and Student Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for both parents and students in academic matters in your subject area, ensuring a constructive channel of communication.
• School Community Engagement: Actively participate in school initiatives and contribute to the creation and implementation of school-wide academic policies. Lead or contribute to an extracurricular club or activity that aligns with your expertise or passion.
• Positive Culture Building: Uphold and contribute to our school's positive culture and values, both among the faculty and the student body.
• Ownership: Be willing to speak up when things can be improved, and willing to step up when a need is identified or support is needed within the school community.

Required Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Secondary Education, or related field.
• Valid teaching certification (preferred)
• At least 3 years of full-time secondary teaching experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
• Tech-savvy with an ability to learn new platforms quickly, such as grade books, Google Classroom, curriculum platforms, and Google Suite.
• Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) responsibly using AI tools to increase efficiency in the education sector

Pay: $25.00 - $32.00 per hour
