Meet the team:
Dexcom is looking for an extrodinary User Research Senior Manager to join our growing User Research team. In this role, you will help us buil products to improve lives with our innovative next generation Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) system. We are passionate about quality, usability, and simplicity and are proud of our dedication towards creating products that empower our users to take control of their diabetes. We build delightful, life-changing and accessible products that display data and insights across multiple platforms, and you will be joining Dexcom at a very exciting time of growth with many new research initiatives in the pipeline.
As a User Research Senior Manager, you will be responsible for leading innovative product research that will help guide near and long-term investments for Dexcom's industry leading line of products and services. You will leverage your research expertise to uncover insights from patients, family members, and health care providers to ensure we are both addressing and innovating around user needs. We are looking for a leader with a collaboration mindset that can work effectively cross-functionally and, at times, across geographies, to partner with Designers, Product Managers, other Research teams, Marketing Managers, Engineers, and Data Scientists. We are also looking for someone with management experience in leading teams, developing other user researchers, and implementing best in class user research strategies across organizations.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience leading primary user research, have a passion for advocating for the customer, and finds reward in helping to create innovative and commercially successful products and services at a global level. You will be joining a growing research team with high impact and visibility across all levels of the organization. This role reports to the Director of User Research. This position is remote (US only) or can be based in our headquarters in San Diego, California.
Where you come in:
- You plan and conduct high quality mixed methods research with spans generative to evaluative research, leveraging both qualitative and quantitative methods.
- You lead the execution of all aspects of research, including defining research objectives, designing methodology, overseeing recruitment, developing discussion guides and questionnaires, programming surveys, analyzing data, putting summative reports and socializing research across the company.
- You collaborate with stakeholders across the organization and work in partnership with other research teams including traditional market research, human factors and customer experience to identify common themes and shape them into actionable insights.
- You are an advocate for the user and act as a champion for using insights to drive decision making.
- You contribute to ongoing research process improvements, including establishing best practices and setting standards for the approach and rigor we apply to our research methods.
- You manage third partner vendors as needed for both recruitment and end-to-end research.
- You manage other user researchers to improve their technical research and leadership skills.
What makes you successful:
- You have 10+ years experience in conducting end-to-end research including creating a research plan, overseeing recruiting, moderation, analysis, report writing and final presentation of results.
- You have 3+ years in direct managing and hiring of user researchers.
- You have expertise with a broad set of user-centered research methods, including but not limited to one-on-one interviews, contextual inquiry and ethnographic field studies, surveys, A/B testing, focus groups, usability testing, concept testing, competitive assessments, diary studies, etc. Knowing when to use which method is essential.
- You are confident and comfortable with mixed method research, metrics, and can synthesize and correlate quantitative and syndicated data with qualitative user research.
- You have strong project management, excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills. You feel comfortable managing multiple research projects and planning research up to 6-12 months ahead.
- You have a track record of collaborating across disciplines (design, product, etc) to drive change into products; must be able to work independently as well as part of a cohesive team.
- You have the ability to analyze complex data, distill it into meaningful insights and tell a compelling story that inspires others into action.
- You have exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- You have strong command of MS Office software (advanced user of PowerPoint and Excel)
- You have knowledge of virtual user research platforms (e.g. UserZoom, dScout, Usertesting)

Preferred Qualifications:
- A Master's degree or higher in Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors or a related field preferred or equivalent.
- Experience with both software and hardware product research.
- Experience in healthcare, fitness, wearables or medical device industry.
- A portfolio of research examples.
- At least 5 years in house within a product or UX design team.
Travel Required:
- Up to 15%, as needed.
Experience and Education
- Typically requires a Bachelors degree with 13+ years of industry experience.
- 5-8 years of previous people management experience.
Exempt Salary Details
The annual base salary range for this role is $135,100 to $224,100. Final compensation package will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, business needs and market demand.
