The Opportunity
USAA is currently seeking a dedicated Strategic Account Relationship Manager Lead (Operations & Service) supporting USAA external Annuity Distribution line of business. This role will be responsible for the operations and service management and oversight for select third party distribution firms. The role objective is to provide advisor and back-office support for assigned distributor firms by serving as an escalation point of contact, issue management and resolution, account onboarding and implementation, deliver operational training programs as needed and deliver overall best in class service.
This lead position can be based in one of our following office locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Tampa, FL, Colorado Springs, CO OR work remotely in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel.
This role will be responsible for the retail distribution of USAA’s Annuity, Life and/Health Solutions product through third party distribution firms.
This role is responsible for developing, managing, growing and nurturing, relationships between USAA and external strategic accounts. These objectives include sales, onboarding and operational support of strategic partner relationships, ability to identify opportunities for growth, and overall build strong relationship with key strategic partners including internal affiliates.
What you'll do:
- Effectively initiates, fosters and manages account relationships with key strategic account partners and internal business team members
- Delivers the on boarding and training programs for partners and/or staff. Ensures proper representation of USAA’s brand and value proposition in the external market place.
- Applies expert knowledge of business and processes in support of the area product, service offerings and delivery of optimal results for the business areas.
- Monitors key strategic partners satisfaction, understands and applies data-driven insights to influence strategies to drive the achievement of business goals.
- Accountable for timely and appropriate resolution of escalations from key strategic account partners
- Proactively partners with team to work with research, analytics, finance, and staff area leaders to identify, influence and lead cross departmental improvement efforts.
- Identifies opportunities to document and facilitate improvements to processes. Develops functional policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Identifies and manages business operational controls to ensure adherence to appropriate risk level.
- Conducts periodic meetings with senior personnel at key strategic partners to foster relationships and uncover opportunities to develop sales and operational efficiencies of products
- Responsible for new account implementation and business development with partners
- Serves as a peer mentor and on-the-job trainer for other team members.
- Serves as a team lead and may be a proxy for leadership.
- Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
- Follows written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities.
What you have:
- Bachelor’s degree OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree. (Total of 12 years without bachelor’s degree)
- 8 or more years of experience in annuities operations, product sales and/or relationship management experience to include: 5+ years 3rd party distribution through full-service brokerage and bank broker dealer firms.
- Working knowledge of investments, annuities and/or life insurance product, vendors and processes.
- 3+ years investment or insurance related product management experience.
- Strong process mapping experience.
- Accountability for complex tasks and/or projects required.
- Excellent relationship management skills and demonstrated ability to influence decisions at executive leadership levels.
- Excellent issue resolution and follow-up skills.
- Excellent executive-level communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively navigate and mediate conflict and foster honest dialog.
- Strong written communication skills.
- Subject-matter-expert knowledge of project management and prioritization skills.
- Subject-matter-expert level of business acumen in the areas of the business operations, industry practices and emerging trends required.
- Travel Required (Up to 20% of time)
What sets you apart:
- US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner
- 8 or more years of experience in Annuity operations, service and/or relationship management experience
- 5 or more years of experience supporting annuity business processes for broker dealer firms.
- 5 years of experience working with external distribution of annuity products
- Experience with Identifying and managing operational and service risk and controls that stem from business activities
- Experience working with Annuity Net, Firelight and DTCC Systems

What we offer:
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $115,240 - $220,270 .
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
