Temporary Gallery Assistant

The Museum is seeking a Temporary Gallery Assistant to assist the Chief Art Preparator and curators with two exhibitions (Guadalupe Maravilla and Precious Okoyomon).
This is a 6 month, on-campus position offering $20.00/hour and Cornell Benefits. When applying for this opportunity, please submit a resume and cover letter in the resume section of the application.
Responsibilities will include:
- Handle and move artwork
- Pack and unpack artwork.
- Arrange safe storage of artwork; evaluate conditions of objects, identifying problems and notifying Chief preparator and registrar of problems.
- Record artwork locations; assure proper labeling of objects.
- Relocate artwork to installation galleries at the request of the registrar and Curators.
- Working closely with artists and Chief preparator, assist with making of custom components needed for the installation of each exhibition.
- Frame and unframe artwork; assist with matting and hinging under supervision of Chief preparator.
- Design and build shipping crates.
- Assist with deinstallation of current shows.
- Patch and paint gallery walls in preparation for upcoming shows.
- Assist with general upkeep of work areas including woodshop, staging area and main storage.
