It is anticipated that this position will work a blend of remote and in-office work at our downtown Madison location (201 E. Washington Ave.). High speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work. Our office is located near a wide variety of restaurants and food carts, live music and events, the farmer's market, B-cycle rentals, lakefront parks, the Capital City bike path, and multiple bus routes.

Position Summary
Under general supervision of the Claims Services Supervisor, this position independently:
- Enters correct and complete claim information from injury reports and other documents into the claims information system and takes appropriate action on claims to acquire necessary information.
- Reviews and edits claim information to ensure accuracy.
- Computes disability compensation due in all disputed and litigated cases including the monetary value of compromise agreements and attorney’s fees.
- Computes benefits for dependents of deceased workers and workers that are permanently totally disabled.
- Computes LIRC interest and court interest payments and corresponds with insurance carriers and self-insured employers when additional information is needed.
- Computes Social Security Disability benefit offsets.
- Acts as a subject matter expert on complex benefit computations for internal WC staff, Administrative Law Judges, and external stake holders including insurance carriers, claimants, and attorneys.

Salary Information
Starting pay is $22.13 per hour, plus excellent benefits.
The classification title for this position is Workers Compensation Assistant 3 (schedule 02, range 12). A 12-month probationary period will be required. This position is not represented in a collective bargaining unit and is non- exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment. Starting pay may vary for current state employees.
Job Details
We consider all qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state, and local law. Finalists for this position may be required to allow DWD to conduct a background check or other checks to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. For positions with access to sensitive federal tax information, FBI fingerprinting may also be required.
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e. a US citizen or national or a lawful permanent resident) at the time of appointment. DWD does not sponsor visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. This is not a contract position. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have the following required qualifications:
- Communicating with customers to resolve issues or make decisions (sample roles: bank teller, customer service representative, claims agent, office assistant, teacher or education assistant, restaurant server, retail associate, or similar);
- Reviewing files, forms, data, or other information to identify issues or make decisions (e.g., deadlines met, missing information, eligibility criteria met, or similar).
- Using basic computer software (e.g., word processing, data entry, email, or similar).
- Organizing and prioritizing tasks.
Well-qualified applicants will also have any of the following preferred qualifications:
- Performing mathematical calculations in a business setting (e.g., financial, accounting, payroll, etc.).
- Interpreting and applying the Wisconsin Worker's Compensation Act.
- Working in a worker's compensation, insurance, legal, or similar environment.
- Explaining technical information to external customers.
